Opening Remarks For O’Bugler

O’BuglerThe bugler was a military position in earlier times who was called upon to rouse the troop with various calls to duty. His trumpeted notes gave heart to soldiers who were being put to the task, sometimes risking life and limb as was their calling. Moreover, the bugler gave a sense of urgency to the regiment, alerting it to impending dangers or situations needing their immediate attention.

The military is about tradition and this particular one held true for hundreds if not thousands of years in various campaigns throughout history Many was the time a bugler’s call or the sight of their flag, standard, pennant or guidon was enough to rally the troops and save the day.

America’s new government and the politics underlying it depended on the independence and industriousness of the people, who in turn expected to be left alone to ply their trades and live their lives. Government’s job was well defined. There were problems/imperfections which were unjust, but in the main the nation thrived and grew, becoming a wondrous place in the annals of western civilization and the best by far.

I believe for some time now underlying politics have eroded our original tradition of rugged individualism and government structure is beginning to falter owing to liberalism, license, fiat, executive excess and constitutional obviation. The incremental impact of these over the past 100 yrs have now called into question the ongoing viability of our American enterprise. It’s time to call our O’Bugler . . .
