Conservatives get down!

We’re down on national debt. Down on the size of government. Down on entitlements, and down on spending. We’re down, down, down.

We’re also down with balancing the budget, transparency, full disclosure on Benghazi, and a complete investigation of the Fast & Furious and White House leaks scandals. We’re totally down with better cooperation from the Justice Dept, and better relations with our loyal opposition.

If we can get down with these, then we can start getting down with higher taxes on the rich and reducing various deductions for high incomers. We can get down with raising revenues. We’ll even consider closing some loopholes and eliminating unwarranted subsidies for farmers, corporations and so on, all predicated on our democrat friends’ willingness to get down, and make some real compromises.

This is especially true for House Minority Leader Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Reid, Vice President Biden and President Obama. There has been very little movement or effort, so far, by any of these key individuals. Without their help/encouragement, nothing will get done.

To be clear, we insist spending cuts be a multiple of tax hikes. In other words, for each dollar of increase, there must be two or three dollars of cuts. Further, these cuts must be immediate and concurrent with any increases.

They must be implemented now, not delayed or promised for some future date, only to be lost in the shuffle of a future congress’s business.

Finally, a goodly portion of increased tax revenues must be devoted/dedicated to paying down debt, perhaps on the order of 50–75%. We need to see and believe that with a concerted effort, we can get debt under control within 5yrs.

It’s trust but verify time, action time, because there is no more time. We must deal with this now if we are to stabilize our finances and get our fiscal house in order. We must face the fact we have limited resources that only go so far. No matter how noble or productive the entitlement, it can never justify going bankrupt.

Government house must return to fiscal discipline. Debt must be limited to below 50% of GDP; spending to under 20%. Let’s show the world we have the will and skill to get this done. Make them think if we can do it they can too!

Then, a curious thing will happen should all this come to pass. People will believe in government again. They’ll re- gain the trust that’s been lost. Re-establishing this credibility will stimulate/reinvigorate businesses to plan and expand. They’ll trust in the future and take risks, and there will be massive job creation. Business will get down!

When the great engine of this economy sputters and roars to life, all will reap the rewards of more jobs, less entitlements, less debt and higher GDP. Markets will get down!

Even the lowest entry-level job leads to self-sufficiency and independence. The chance to become middle class. The opportunity to improve and grow one’s self-esteem.

A newfound determination comes to all who just want to try and go it on their own, breaking their cycle of depend- ency. These in turn become examples to others who are less optimistic or motivated, and need a little prodding to get it going. Now we’re talking. We’re finding self-respect, be- coming proud of ourselves, our countrymen, our government and our nation. The People are getting down!

We can do this, if we face reality. If we accept our limits while exploiting our strengths. If we strive for the attainable, and not the impossible. When we all pull together, as one united people, there can be no stopping us! And make no mistake .  .  America will be getting down!
