AMERICA’S FACE
In the late 1930’s early 40’s we had a far left socialist for president. In the 50’s a retired general; early 60’s a playboy with no experience who nearly got us into nuclear war, followed by a liberal coxswain who foisted the welfare state upon us; 70’s a man of dubious character who we forced from office; 80’s an actor turned politician who strode bigger than life quipping conservative rhetoric and cowboy aphorisms; 90’s a sexual predator despoiling the office and cheapening our visage.
In the first decade of the new century we had a compassionate RINO who fired our vengeful spirits but wasted our treasury. Now we have a racist, globalist ideologue who puts crime and terrorism ahead of law enforcement and justice, Islam ahead of Christianity, the world ahead of America.
Of course there were others in between, but the dominant ones, the ones who punctuated our history, brightened or darkened our nation’s image, were these nine; five democrats, four republicans. Not quite a rogue’s gallery, but not stuff for Mt Rushmore either (except one?).
Given this experience many of us wonder what on earth we’re going to do with the choice before us? On one hand is a surly, brutish, smugly self-assured businessman who says what he thinks without mincing words or following political correctness. Even worse, we’re not sure of his political beliefs, priorities or overall commitment to campaign promises. In short, we’re not ready to trust him and we don’t know the kind of president he will be.
The other is an arrogant, serial-lying hypocrite who defies authority, exploits her status as former First Lady, abused her offices of senator and Sec’ty of State by suborning perjury, propagating lies, effectuating falsehoods, perpetrating frauds, shaking down donors and generally doing anything/everything to suit her fancy, getting filthy rich in the process. Color of authority? Conflict of interest? Negligent? Derelict? Incompetent? Unindicted Co-conspirator? High crimes?
Those are the choices. A political neophyte with mixed background and dubious intent, or a known miscreant who has flouted the law, abused her authority and may be responsible (intentionally/unintentionally) for the murder of four people, including our ambassador. We can’t know for sure because the FBI, Justice Dept and Congress are unable (unwilling?) to demand answers under oath on her whereabouts, communications and actions in the hours before, during & after Benghazi.
Of course, to an old marine like myself, this is nuts! Those people were under her watch. She was 110% accountable for their safety. She absolutely must be open and forthcoming on what she knows. Furthermore, it’s inconceivable to me there isn’t an indelible record accessible to an appropriate reviewing authority that is trying to reconstruct who was doing what, when they were doing it, and why? Phone records, texts, emails, faxes, minutes of meetings, whatever. She should be answering to the record, speaking to facts we already know, instead of dancing around keeping us in the dark!
Speaking of emails, we know she took it upon herself to privatize these away from normal channels. Why? Was it to guard against this type of situation (intrusion?) where if superiors wanted access they would have to go to her hat in hand to see their own government property?
I think we should be ready to make our choice. I made mine years ago, knowing full well who this woman is. The opening list of prior leaders contains no one of her ilk or predisposition, except her husband. Isn’t it time we finally recognize them for who they really are? I think our military, law enforcement, homeland security, intelligence community, foreign service & diplomatic corps would all be crazy to think this woman could be an acceptable, let alone effective, Commander-in-Chief.
You know, I misspoke when I described the choice before us. There is no choice. Hillary Clinton is eminently unsuited, unqualified & undeserving of our highest office. She’s working furiously to get into the White House, when we all know she ought to be fighting desperately to stay out of the Big House!
Trump may be a lot of things, but he’s not openly deceitful, untrustworthy or evil as this woman has shown herself to be. The Donald makes us squirm, may even embarrass us as the face of our country, but until we learn otherwise he’s at least a poster boy who is honest, forthright and hugely successful in business, here and abroad. Hillary’s face Day 1 will be an oddity in that it would seem more appropriate posted in police ready rooms across the nation as one of FBI’s Most Wanted rather than in school rooms, government offices and embassies around the world.
Clumsy, pouty-faced, golden-haired tycoon or devious, shifty-eyed political mafiosa. Which face will America put on for the next four years?
